Corporate Overview
Established in 1998, MemberHealth is a national Prescription Benefits Management company (PBM) headquartered in Solon, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland.
As a PBM, MemberHealth administers prescription drug benefits for commercial and government organizations as well as for one of the nation’s largest Medicare Part D plans, Community CCRx℠, in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Its business philosophy sets MemberHealth apart from its competitors. From its inception, MemberHealth executed pharmacy transactions under full transparency. As an originator of the concept, the company believes that transparency removes the confusion surrounding the transactions associated with prescription drug benefits.
MemberHealth established its reputation as a visionary provider of prescription drug benefits for insured and self-insured groups and discount prescription programs across the country. By focusing on strengthening the relationships between patients, their pharmacists and physicians, MemberHealth can help people take medicines with confidence, while saving them money.
MemberHealth also stresses working closely with its clients to understand each situation fully before implementing a benefits program. By analyzing the needs of these companies, MemberHealth can customize a solution that will control plan costs and minimize claims administration instead of funneling these customers into a “one-size-fits-all” plan.
The company currently administers benefits for approximately 5 million people and processed nearly 52 million prescriptions in 2006 through its extensive network of more than 63,000 participating pharmacies nationwide.
MemberHealth is continually recognized for its benchmarking success and dedication to member satisfaction. Most recently, the company was recognized in 2007 by Wilson Health Information for having the highest member satisfaction of the top Part D plans in the country for its client, Community CCRx.
In September 2007, MemberHealth became part of the Universal American Corporation family of companies. As a result, MemberHealth will operate as a subsidiary of Universal American. The acquisition is a positive step for both companies because they have joined together in support of the pharmacy-based model that was the foundation of MemberHealth’s success. For 2008, MemberHealth will partner with other insurance subsidiaries from the Universal American family of companies to provide Medicare Advantage plans with integrated prescription drug coverage, called MAPD products, which feature Community CCRx prescription drug coverage.
